Electricity Score

My project is basically a soccer accuracy test.  The person playing will attempt to shoot a skill ball into one of the five holes.  Each of the five holes will have a certain score based on how difficult the shot is.  If the person “scores” then a light will light up, signaling that they have won.  Hopefully, I will figure out a way to allow the ball to return to the person in some type of tube.

I am curious about the type of switch or other item that can allow the ball to activate the switch long enough to light the light bulb, and have it fall down the tube afterward.  That is proving more difficult then I imagined.  To make the separate light bulbs to only light when a certain switch is activated I will have to create a somewhat complicated series circuit with one or two batteries.  To do this I will have to figure out how to create this circuit by using what I have learned about electric currents and circuits to create this circuit so that the bulb only lights when I want it to.

The kids will learn about circuits by explaining to them in a very quick way about how the circuit and the switches is lighting the bulb when they kick the ball into the hole.  If they do not succeed in kicking the ball in the hole then I will show them how the bulb lights up by placing the ball into the hole.  I will also have a diagram with the project that people can look at to help them understand my project so that they will learn more then I could say when I explain it to them.

  1. GOOD IDEAS

This a very good, simple, fun pproject that anyone will be able to play.
I think the ramp you should use should be one of thoses long paper towel rolls.
Just like Mary, I think the pressure switch would bring the balls back to the person.
I like this idea a lot, it's creative and fun.

  3. That sounds like a very good way to teach kids about electricity. It is short and easy, so the little kids won't get bored and or confused.
I think that to make something to make the ball come back you could put the targets up a ramp and the ball could go up the ramp in the hole then straight down (turning the lightbulb on) maybe with a pressure switch and there could be an additional rampbelow that the ball would come back in. Kind of complicated to explain, but just a suggestion.
I really like this idea and think it would be a really fun but educational project.
